Review: Soul Slings, 100% Linen Single Layer Ring Sling, Eggnog.
Sorry, I've popped off the radar a little as of late. I'm currently visiting the fam bam in the Middle East, with a teething 6 month old! She's having an evening nap, so I have a little time to keep you updated. I don't want to speak too soon though!
Now this little Ring Sling is a game changer, it changed my baby wearing views & completely blew me out of the water.
After hearing (see: reading) from many mamas that ring slings were "uncomfy" or "awkward" I expected not to enjoy this traveller and to find it finicky. I thought I would dislike the feeling of uneven weight distribution as I had become accustomed to carries using both shoulders aside from a rare Poppins carry. I had heard of issues strand tightening through rings and thought they sounded like more hassle than they were worth.
Either I had an epic case of beginners luck, or this sling is just a nifty little thing!
On the other hand I was informed by a couple of mamas that RS's were great for "quick ups" - short trips or when paying for petrol after filling up etc. The first time I tried it on it was perfect, I fanned the material over my shoulder, it sat perfectly. Strand tightening took a second to get used to & then I found it simple. My little chunk of a bubba was sitting quite comfortably and feeling supported and almost weightless. I tried both front and hip variations & loved the look of the long tail that draped down my side. I even received a few messages/comments of approval on a quick selfie via Facebook. Non baby wearers included!
Soul slings are made in India from completely natural fibres, therefore they cater to hotter, humid climates.
The linen material is lightweight and super breathable, perfect for summer or hot weather. There is no bulk, and you could easily tuck it away in the side pocket of a non-nappy handbag.
It felt like it was broken in and was not at all crispy but still retained some of that soft meshy, almost gauzy feel.
Not quite as soft as the broken in cotton soul slings, but noticeably thinner.
As it is linen, it can have the tendency to pull, but I wouldn't suggest wearing studs or spikes with any woven wraps. Don't let the thinness fool you, it's holds strong and feels durable.
Now, I'm not a yellow fan. I have yellow undertones in my skin so wearing yellow washes me out completely, however the Eggnog did not! It was actually a colour that I didn't hate.
Okay, down to the nitty gritty, the price range. For a quality RS you expect extravagant prices right? Wrong. You can pick up this convenient carrier from http://www.mummaandthemonkey.com.au/shop/soul-slings-single-layer-linen-ring-sling-eggnog.html for only $60AUD.
Whilst I have been wrapping for a little while now, I'm a total n00b with RS's and found it easy to get the hang of. I'd say it's suitable from beginners to advanced.
I'd love to try it with a squish.
For those placing bets at home, she did wake up about 2 paragraphs in, haha!
